Yes, it may seem like an odd combination. But the cause is a good one! DHL created "Tote for Teachers" to support TeachersCount, a "501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to creating a permanent culture of teacher appreciation." Although, to be honest, I'm not really sure what creating this "culture" would entail. Come on, most kids won't appreciate their teachers until later on in life. When younger, they seem bossy or pushy, but, like your parents, you'll love them later! At least this is a chance to get a Zac Posen original, even if it is $400!!

No, I'm not really too much of a Wal-Mart fan. The lines are atrocious, even if the prices are great. (Although, frankly Target's aren't too much different!) But they have really begun to revamp their offerings. I actually just came across a perfect example just of this.

The Opera Comforter Set is really quite elegant. I'm not sure how great the quality is, but I do truly like the styling. And at the Wally World price, one would be able to change their room around frequently! I have also noticed their selections of clothing have become more fashion-forward. I guess with places like H&M and Forever21 they have to remain competitive. It's all the better for us and our wallets!

Ford and its Fusion have introduced a very interesting marketing ploy aimed at women. They have teamed up with Benefit cosmetics to create a special pallette of eyeshadow. I guess we are supposed to like the eyeshadows and then decide that the car is also nice. What's more, the product is only sold at brick-and-mortar Sephora, the cool-spot for macquillage.

Anyone who knows me knows I am a wholehearted Dr. Scholl's Fan. The Originals, that is. I began wearing them back in the Spring of '96, when I picked up a cool pair in Copenhagen. I like to think I rekindled the interest in the shoe that has piqued over the past (wow!) 10 years.

Well, I've just received word of a limited edition Scholl called "Starstruck" that was given to the rich, or the celebities at a pre-Oscar celebration. And we minions may be lucky enough to pay for them by signing up here. I do like the styling, but still continue to detest the idea that giving free stuff to people who can pay for it will make the rest of us interested in the product.

Note to PR people: Melissa Rivers ESPECIALLY does NOT make me want to purchase a pair of your shoes.

One of my favorite artists (who also happens to be a friend) has launched a line of wallpaper through Maxalot. Kenzo Minami is known for his sleek graphics and has been featured just about everywhere. Now you have a chance to have some Kenzo in your home with this wallpaper. Love it!! It's almost as good as having Kenzo come and paint it himself.

I'll admit it--I am a cat person. This isn't bad, as I do also love dogs. But with cats come the obligatory ugly items in the home. That is, until I found Cat Interiors.
Check out these nice items:

The Rondo Stand provides a nice bed for the cat. And the cat likes it because it is higher up--cats like to perch.

The Rondo Wall is a version of the Stand style, but this attaches directly to the wall. This is my favorite by far, as it de-clutters the space.

The main problems: prices are a bit high and they are in Germany so the shipping makes it even higher. Oh well. Any expense for a pretty home and a happy cat!!

Yet another odd design pairing has come across the "desk" today: Norma Kamali and Spiegel. Ms. Kamali was in her design heyday in the'70's, with her flowing, draped designs, harking to the '40's. She is also very well known for her wrapped swimwear.

The designs are quite nice--simple and elegant, with a twist.

CB2, the "lower-priced" offshoot of Crate and Barrel is launching their first paper catalog. Their items are quite nice--clean and modern. Sort of an Ikea feel to them. At any rate, it's a nice find if you want to spruce up your space without too much cash.

I know. No one ever has time for breakfast. So when I saw this, I thought, damn, this is something people will really like.

It's a combo thing-a-magiggy. It's a toaster. It's an egg-poacher. And it's a meat-warmer. This means one can prepre a breakfast sandwich all at once. Pop the bread in, crack an egg, and put a pre-cooked sausage in the tray. When you leave the shower, you just have to assemble your sandwich (with a slice of cheese, of course!)

Usually I scry "cool" things. I know this isn't the hippest item in the world, but hey, don't they say breakfast is the most important meal of the day??

BookCrossing is such a cool idea...I'm mad I didn't think of it!! The basic premise revolves aroun sharing your books with others. Step one, you would join the site. Step two, you would get a number to place in the front cover of the book. Step three, leave the book in a public place for someone else to read. Hopefully, step four would occur--they would go online to let you know they got it. This would sort of track the book whereever it went. Hmmm...I'll have to go find some books to release into the world.

Actually, this is quite nice--you use your gmail account name and it will automatically detect any contacts you have from that account. Also, it has "telephone" capabilities, so you can chat vocally, as well as visually/type-ally.

I'm sure this isn't really that new...butCB2 looks quite nice. Sort of an urban Ikea. Or an American Ikea? CB2 is an off-shoot from Crate & Barrel. Their secondary line, as it could be called. The prices are certainly more affordable, and the styles seem to be contemporary chic. We'll have to see how this unfolds.

I'll have to be sure to get back to NYC before the 10th of July in order to see Max Ernst: A Retrospective. The MET looks to be putting on yet another great show. Mr. Ernst is quite underappreciated in the surrealist movement. Obviously, most attention goes to his contemporaries like Dali and Magritte. However, Mr. Ernst carved out his own style in this interesting movement. You'll have to look and see for yourself.

Sounds scary, huh? Well, it's not. mushroomgirlsvirus is a soon-to-be-released tome by brilliant visual artist Deanne Cheuk. Last fall she exhibited this work in Philly at the 222 Vine gallery, and now it seems that she has expanded this theme. I'll have to ask her myself!! I'll give an update once I get the lowdown.

Just when you've seen enough of these cute little tomes next to the regiter (impulse buys, as the industry calls them), along comes
BOOK SMARTS. Refreshingly, the Book Smarts series (there are 3 in all) are quite well designed. And the catch phrases are not watered down with flowery language. Everything about this is straight-forward--the messages as well as the imagery. And that's good!
