Ryan McGinness & JONES NEW YORK?

Yes, a strange "marriage". But it's true. Ryan, ever the good samaritan, has donated a t-shirt design to the JONES NEW YORK IN THE CLASSROOM program.

Here it is from the site, modeled by lovely Brooke Shields:

It is a "program designed to help improve the quality of education for America's children and inspire others to do the same". So support! The tees are only $20!

Junkmedia: Daily album reviews, weekly interviews, music blog, mp3s and more

Junkmedia isn't new--it's been around for a few years. But, since I just discovered it, it seems new! Also, because the music is cutting-edge, it is always new! Junkmedia seems intent on cutting through the BS to bring you the best of the new stuff. Cheers to that!

Designer Shoes now at Zappo's

Interestingly, Zappo's, a great source for shoes has added designer labels to its mix. Here's a link:
Buy Designer Shoes at Zappos.com
With offerings such as Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, Calvin Klein, and Donna Karan, Zappo's has tapped into an interesting market diversification plan. And I for one can't wait til they get marked down!! Heh heh...(Also, Zappo's usually ships for free, and seemingly overnight!)

BookCrossing - Home - FREE YOUR BOOKS!

BookCrossing is such a cool idea...I'm mad I didn't think of it!! The basic premise revolves aroun sharing your books with others. Step one, you would join the site. Step two, you would get a number to place in the front cover of the book. Step three, leave the book in a public place for someone else to read. Hopefully, step four would occur--they would go online to let you know they got it. This would sort of track the book whereever it went. Hmmm...I'll have to go find some books to release into the world.

Video from Around the World

I've just discovered a cool thing. I'll assume it's new because I just found it. Ha ha...I'm sure it isn't. Anyway, it's a page on the Reuters site dedicated to news/video feeds from across the globe. Here's the spot to go. It is so nice to have a more global perspective, especially when it comes to news. Yes, new broadcasts are supposed to be unbiased, but I always hear a small snipe by the anchor on the local news. Enjoy

Handmade Modern : Todd Oldham

HGTV will present a 5 part series by Todd Oldham called Handmade Modern. This looks to be very cool...I've always admired Todd's aesthetic, a bit 70's, a bit crafty, but always clean and modern. The series starts on Monday, September 26th and runs all week. Yay!
Todd also has a book in conjunction with the show that is sure to be chock full o' design ideas:

What music do musicians listen to???

Amazon has an interesting mini-site up now in their music store which offers artists' recommendations. Most of these recommendations are pretty straightforward: Dar Williams likes Kate Bush and Aimee Mann likes Elliott Smith. But the lists are still quite fun to peruse. And maybe even discover some new music! Most shocking preferences: Moby liking Public Enemy, Morcheeba recommending Loretta Lynn (although this is the Jack White [Stripes] album), Donnie Osmond likes Def Leppard and N Sync!!

Increase Your Hurricane Katrina Donations!!

Planning on donating to help Hurricane Katrina victims? Make the most of your money with matching donations! Here are a couple I've come across:

*The Ellen DeGeneres Show & Warner Brothers will match your donation to the Red Cross! Up to $500,000 matched. Here's the spot.

*Lowe's will match any donations to the Red Cross up to $2 million made *in-store only*. See box at bottom of their home page.

*Until Sept. 30th, Best Buy will match any online or in-store donations to the Red Cross up to $1 million dollars.

*Sears/K-Mart will match in-store donations to the Red Cross up to $500,000.

*The McCormick Tribune will match $.50 of every $1 donated to it's fund of the first $2 million received.

*Join the Oxygen "Oh! Speakup!" Campaign (free sign-up) and Oxygen will donate $1 to the Texas Children's Hospital up to $10,000.

*Also, check to see if your employer matches any charitable donations!! An easy way for it to add up!

Don't forget our animal friends...Donate to the ASPCA!

For a pretty darn complete list of donations made by corporations, CNN is on it.

If you don't have money you can spare, a local Corpus Christie business called Coffee Cup is collecting "comfort items" for the estimated 250,000 people for whom Texas will be caring. You would simply have to ship items to them.

PHOTOMUSE

Wanna see nice photos? PHOTOMUSE.org is a collaboration between the International Center of Photography and the George Eastman house. They aim to have a complete database of their collections. Even now, there are 1600 images online, as well as a variety of online exhibitions. A very nice browse indeed.
